WHEREAS. ❑�arian cancer is the fifth leading cause pf �ancer-related death amang wamen in �
the United States, and the American Cancer 5ociety estimates that in 2D2fi appraximately �
21,010 women wifl be diagnosed with ��arian cancer and 12,45a will die from the disease r;
nationwide—including an estimated 45a new tases and 315 deaths in Ariiona; and ;
WHEREAS, a woman's lifetime risk ❑f being diagnosed with o�arian cancer is approximately 1 in �
, 91, and her lifetime risk af dying from the disease is approximately 1 in 143; and �i
W4iEREAS, due to �ague, nonspecific symptams and the absence af a reliahle early detectivn
test, the majority of wamen are diagnosed at 5tage III or later, when the cancer has already
spread beyond the ❑varies; and
WHEREAS, although the fi�e-year sur�i�al rate far 5tage I n�arian cancer exceeds 90 pertent,
only 17 pereent of cases are diagnosed at this early stage. For those diagnosed in later stages,
the fi�e-year sur�i�al rate drops be�ow SU percent; and
WHEREAS, while screening toals su�h as mammograms and Pap tests exist far breast and cervical ;�
cancers, na equivaient s�reening test exists for v�arian cancer, making awareness of symptvms '�;
and risk fat#ors essentiai for earEy intervention; and "�
W�IEREAS, increased public education about o�arian cancer can help save li�es by promating _�
earlier diagnosis, supporting access to gynecalogi� oncql�gy care, and eneouraging research :�
funding far better detection and treatment optians; and
WHEREAS, during this mQnth, the Town of Fauntain Hiils joins all those affe�ted by ovarian cancer `

— those currently battling, those who have lost their li�es, their families and caregivers, and flur

dedicated health�are professionals — in raising awareness, pramoting edu�ation, and fostering
hape far earlier diagnoses, improved treatments, and ultimately a �ure; .�
