PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, From a little museum located in half of the Chamber of Commerce office in Fountain Park
in 1991 to today's highly acclaimed L. Alan Cruikshank River of Time Museum has been a journey of
many years;
AND WHEREAS, Tonight we recognize the 10th anniversary of its official opening in 2003;
AND WHEREAS, In less than a year after opening, the River of Time Museum received certification
from the Arizona Historical Society - a process that normally takes 5 years — and since that time, the
museum's reputation has grown and it has received accolades from visitors and professionals;
AND WHEREAS, Additions have been made to the original structure, including a new wall built in the
lobby of the building which contains a mural painted above the faux rock surface and a kiosk embedded
in the wall providing information about the museum and the members of the Hall of Fame of this region;
AND WHEREAS, New exhibits have been added including a wall of pictures on the history of Fountain
Hills; more audio /visual equipment to inform visitors about CAP, the Roosevelt Dam and the amethyst
mine in Four Peaks; a statue of Jack Swilling to complete the water exhibit; and a scale model of Fort
McDowell as it looked in the mid- 1800's;
AND WHEREAS, People important to the museum's history have been permanently recognized for
their efforts, as follows: in 2008 the name of its long serving president whose vision and perseverance
made the museum a reality was added and the museum became known as the L. Alan Cruikshank
River of Time Museum, and in 2009 the traveling exhibit room was named the Clinton M. Pattea Gallery
in honor of the Yavapai Tribal Nation's President who has been a member of the Board of Directors
since its inception and who has contributed in so many ways to the success of the historical society and
the museum;
AND WHEREAS, As time passes, more changes will be made to keep the museum current and
enhance its mission to lead visitors through creative, informative exhibits that recount the captivating
past of the Lower Verde River Valley, to depict the importance of water in our Sonoran Desert, and to
illustrate how water determines the course of history;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Linda M. Kavanagh, Mayor of the Town do hereby proclaim the L. Alan
Cruikshank River of Time Museum a valuable asset to the Town of Fountain Hills and congratulate the
museum on its 10"' Anniverary and honor all those involved in making the museum great.
