A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA, PERTAINING TO AIR QUALITY AND A
SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION REQUEST.
WHEREAS, the Town Manager has established an Air Quality Task Force Committee
in compliance with a request from the Town Council; and
WHEREAS, this Task Force is charged with making appropriate recommendations and
proposals to improve the air quality, not only of Fountain Hills, but of the greater metropolitan
Phoenix area; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council desires to follow the appropriate recommendations made
by this Task Force; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council is desirous of encouraging Governor Symington and the
Arizona State Legislature to take appropriate action to improve the air quality; and
WHEREAS, if action is not taken, the State of Arizona could lose significant, vital
funding for highways; and
WHEREAS, the State legislature is empowered to take the necessary actions to improve
air quality in the State of Arizona; and
WHEREAS, the Maricopa Association of Governments is a powerful voice in making
recommendations and taking appropriate action to improve air quality;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the
Town of Fountain Hills hereby requests that Governor Symington call a special session of the
Arizona State Legislature to consider appropriate action to improve the air quality in the greater
metropolitan Phoenix area; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Common Council of the Town of
Fountain Hills encourage the Maricopa Association of Governments to also request a special
session of the State Legislature to deal with this significant problem.
