44W RESOLUTION 1993 -37
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA, IN SUPPORT OF THE NORTH
AMERICAN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT.
WHEREAS, the North American Free Trade Agreement will add 175,000 jobs to the
70,000 United States jobs already generated by trade with Mexico, 'and;
WHEREAS, 1,000 of those new jobs would add to 30,000 high - paying Arizona jobs
related to vigorous trade with Mexico and Canada, and;
WHEREAS, the North American Free Trade Agreement provides enlightened worker
protection on both sides of the border, including retraining for any United States workers whose
jobs are dislocated by a development in the expanding global economy, and;
WHEREAS, the Audubon Society and many other organizations representing 80 percent
of U.S. environmental activists wholeheartedly support the treaty agreements, and;
WHEREAS, NAFTA will intensify the strong cultural, social, and economic bonds
among Arizona, Canada, and Mexico, giving their citizens new opportunities to realize the full
IV potential of their formidable talents and energies.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED on the 4th day of November, 1993, that the
Common Council of the Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona, hereby declares full and unqualified
support of the North American Free Trade Agreement and directs that a copy of this resolution
be forwarded to the President of the United States and each member of the Arizona
Congressional Delegation.
