PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Sister City program was inaugurated by the President of the United States
of America in 1956 to establish, maintain, and foster greater friendship and understanding
between the people of the United States and other nations through the medium of direct
personal contact; and
WHEREAS, the twinning concept was established in Europe to maintain and foster the
same goals and aspirations; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the City of Dierdorf, Germany and the Town of Fountain Hills,
Arizona formed a Sister City relationship in March of 2004; and
WHEREAS, The Day of German Unity commemorates the 1990 Reunification of
Germany and is celebrated each year on October 3rd; and
WHEREAS, President Obama proclaimed October 6, 2016, as German -American Day; and
WHEREAS, the Sister City affiliation requires support from the citizens and governments
of both communities; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council recognizes and commends the many positive outcomes that
have resulted from this Sister City relationship; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dierdorf, Germany and the Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona are
Sister Cities that extend hands of friendship and share cultural understanding with each
other;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Linda M. Kavanagh, Mayor, do hereby proclaim appreciation for
the friendship and partnership between Dierdorf, Germany and the Town of Fountain Hills.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the official
seal of the Town of Fountain Hills, Maricopa County, Arizona this 20* day of October,
