For nearly 8 of the last 10 years I have been privileged to serve our Community as a Director of the Fountain Hills Civic Association. During that time, along with fellow Directors and Officers. I have had an opportunity to experience first hand, the unique and valuable benefits provided by our present Community Center, and have gained an appreciation for what it takes to project that kind of excellence into the future. In addition to my long term relationship with the promotion and planning aspects of the new facility, I have also had a notable history of experience related to the production and promotion of trade show and convention type events. While I would anticipate the Facility Director being far more immersed in commercial development endeavors,I would hope that having some of this experience on the Commission would (ny be of value. The new facility has 10 times the space; 10 times the assets and a 10 times better location than the old one. The challenge now is to make sure the community gets 10 times(well, at least 6 or 7 times)more benefit from the new facility than we currently enjoy from the old one. I truly believe this can be done, opportunities abound, and I hope that I can play a part in helping our community successfully meet the challenge. Walt Franklin L WALT FRANKLIN (titio 15547 E. I am interested in serving as a member of the Fountain Hills Community Center Advisory Commission because I strongly believe a vibrant, active community center is vital to the health of our growing community. My background in arts and event administration provides an understanding of of the many elements necessary in development of the Center. Additionally, my previous employment both with the Washington State Senate and the Lewis County Center has given me insight to the role of government and public events. As a relative newcomer to the area (I moved to Fountain Hills in May 1999) , I am eager to contribute to my new community. To ensure the financial and community success of the new center, strong administration and careful planning is necessary. If I were to be selected to serve on the Commission, I would work hard to provide leadership to the Center' s director as well as be an open conduit of communication to the local citizens. 46, wN\t- o a 0 TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS BACKGROUND AND PERSONAL DATA OUTLINE APPOINTMENT TO COMMUNITY CENTER ADVISORY COMMISSION • NAME: Margaret (Peg) Tibbetts PHONE: 480-837-9481 ADDRESS: 15633 E. I am interested in serving on the Fountain Hills Community Center Advisory Commission because of my experience and knowledge about this project which go back to my early days in the community. Since I am now completing my 26th year living in Fountain Hills, the dreams we early residents had about the amenities that we would eventually enjoy are about to come true. Moving here from Deerfield, Illinois in January, 1975 I was hired by McCullough Properties in April, 1975 and served as executive secretary to William Fisher, the project manager for over 16 years. During that period I was involved in a hands • - on post graduate course in community planning, zoning issues, public relations, engineering projects, utility installation, enforcement of deed restrictions, property owner association management, etc. (ily During those years and up until the present I have continued to be involved in many areas of community life (see attached listing) including membership on the Community Center Action Committee which since 1986 has been involved in the development of the plans for the new facility. It is my firm belief that this new building should serve all segments and ages in our town and plans for assuring this broad scope can best be proposed by a commission that reflects this breadth in its own membership. Of course, my personal contribution would be at the advanced years end of the scale! But by temperament and long held commitment to this project, I would be honored to serve. • • .04TAIN 1, lq ffigiNt ,0)1 hat ie Ai • TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS BACKGROUND AND PERSONAL DATA OUTLINE APPOINTMENT TO COMMUNITY CENTER ADVISORY COMMISSION NAME: &AIL ft/9X45740/71 Pfi PHONE:1/6'0-82C-e $c .k ADDRESS:16M $ 051. Gail Hallstrom Pape: One of the reasons I moved to Fountain Hills two years ago was to be part of a smaller community in which I could become a more active citizen and get involved in service work. This is a great opportunity for me to bring my professional career knowledge into a volunteer role, which will benefit the Fountain Hills' Community Center. As a certified meeting planner I have had over ten years experience in researching, doing site-selection, and negotiating contracts for meeting and tradeshow space with hotels, convention centers, and community centers in various parts of the country. I have planned educational seminars for 50 (ow people, annual conventions/conferences ranging in attendance from 500 to 3,000, and have produced large weekend public tradeshows with over 12,000 attendees. I believe that these experiences will lend themselves to helping me to suggest ways in which the Town of Fountain Hills will best be able to fully utilize the Center. Since I own my company, I have flexible work hours so I can devote the time required for the Advisory Commission. Goals & Obiectives: Assisting in the development of policies and procedures, rules and regulations for groups renting and utilizing the Community Center. Bringing quality programs and events into the Community, which will be of benefit and interest to the town of Fountain Hills and its residents, while bringing in revenue for the Community Center, local businesses and the town of Fountain Hills. I truly feel that I might channel this extra energy and apply the talents I possess to give back to our community in the area of facility/operations/construction/consulting. I possess a State of Arizona real estate brokers license and will be a designated broker under Trammell Crow Company. Therefore, I could not help on leasing or transactions associated with the real estate due to conflict of interest probabilities. The primary goals and objectives that I would like to be involved in, developing very quickly upon appointment are: • Provide timely direction in matters related to the proper, safe and profitable operation of our new Community Center. • Develop a very tangible and cohesive leadership among all members of this new Commission in order that a strong team approach may prevail which will provide timely direction for the success of our Community Center. • Because our Center will be open after hours, there will be a strong need to effectively plan the management of maintenance and to ensure that all life safety equipment is tested and working properly. Life safety/emergency procedures need to be developed and set in practice as soon as the center opens. • It has been my experience that on new construction, the possibility of deficiencies exist and it would be in the interest of safety and cost effectiveness to ensure these "punch-list deficiencies"be kept to a minimum. The old adage should prevail here; "two sets of eyes are better than one". I hope you will give my application strong consideration and I look forward to discussing the possibilities further. L TIME LINE ACCOMPLISHMENTS GREG MARASTON L 1980 As Project Manager, I directed the efforts of architects, contractors, testing personnel and specification writers for high-rise construction and major retrofits to Bell facilities. Major accomplishments included a 300,000 square foot high tech addition to 375, 000 square foot computer center, and a complete exterior/interior retrofit to a 490,000 square foot 28-story older building. 1982 I was highly successful in demographically site searching, negotiating leasing, and leasehold agreements, and I also managed the turnkey construction and opening for over 250 multi-faceted facilities across Canada for Allstate Insurance. 1984 I spearheaded the development, construction, and operating of Allstate's "State of the Art"Canadian Corporate Head Office, designed at just under 1,000,000 square feet on a strategic 27-acre site. 1985 I was elected President of IFMA Toronto Chapter, a non-profit association dedicated to providing consultation and support for related professional asset managers throughout North America, Europe and the Far East. 1986 Through a consolidated effort that commenced in 1983, I successfully finalized a complete outsourcing of property, facility, and construction services for Allstate's Canadian real estate portfolio realizing cost efficiencies, improved control and response that allowed more quality time for core activity. (likw 1992 Our relocate to the United States resulted from the fact that Julia and I were one of the lucky few from 3,000,00 applicants to receive a U.S. Green Card with no restrictions. Although our friends felt it was a very gutsy move on our part, we feel extremely fortunate and happy with our accomplishments. 1992 We moved to Atlanta and started the process of settling in. We chose Atlanta because of its growth potential with the upcoming Olympics and because of its warmer climate. Times proved difficult for us both, and while my search continued for the proper fit, I joined Coldwell Banker Real Estate and worked on a commission basis in Residential and Commercial projects. I worked very hard and spent numerous hours in developing a portfolio that permitted me to become a Million- Dollar Club Memberwithin the first 12 months. 1994 Through continued diligence in searching, an excellent corporate position (Vice President of Real Estate) at First Union became available and I was the successful candidate. 1994 I directed the efforts of property managers to stabilize and reduce costs. I managed to achieve this by doing the following: • Re-engineered contracts to better control costs and improve quality • Developed a 5-year plan to update facilities in order to remove and eliminate deferred maintenance that was a great expense to First Union. • Revamped the tenant administration portfolio to enhance communication and feedback to ensure we not only provided, but also exceeded customer expectations. • Opened direct communication with the branch network to provide service requirements in line with furnishing professional looking facilities that worked well and were cost effective. TIME LINE ACCOMPLISHMENTS GREG MARASTON - PAGE TWO low 1995 I continued to develop team commitments to achieve closer accountability between the two disciplines of construction and property management to better service customer needs. 1995/96 I assumed a leadership role working with First Union Head Office in Charlotte and their new acquisition (First Fidelity) in New Jersey and Philadelphia and developed consolidation of efforts in quality improvements, cost savings, and an overall unified approach to asset management. 1996 I directed the development and implementation of Procedures for Management and Leasing of Class A& B Buildings. I instituted a Procedures Manual and had the leadership role for Disaster Recovery and was successful in centralizing a strategic team to deal with the company's 2,500 facilities from Maryland to the Florida Keys. I rearranged and updated the environmental policy and consolidated efforts to provide better control and communication for all facilities across the First Union network. I planned and directed the implementation of Energy Management programs in a (11w five-year plan including OSHA requirements for CFC, Halon and U/G fuel storage tanks. 1997 On August 20th, I joined the Trammell Crow Company as a Senior Facility Manager and supervised activity for the Barnett Bank/NationsBank account in Florida. This included a portfolio of 460 bank facilities encompassing 4 million square feet. 1998 to Present The outsource management of the Bank One Contract in Texas and Arizona (400 bank facilities and 5.2 million square feet). My accomplishments on this outsource contract have included: • The stabilization of a central call center to cost effectively track performance on 12,000— 14,000 facilities calls per month. • Instituted credits for rent delinquencies. • Stabilized and effectively reduced occupancy costs by 10%. • Developed and implemented emergency preparedness, ADA and environmental plans. • Marketed facilities outsource products to other banks and peer companies. • Implemented a measurable "quality assurance program" and developed vendor expectations. TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS COMMUNITY CENTER ADVISORY COMNIISSION LPlease explain and describe why you are interested in serving on the Fountain Hills Community Center Advisory Commission. Also please state what your goals and objectives in serving on the Commission would be. Attach additional sheet,if necessary. The Fountain Hills Community Center could be the lifeblood of the citizens residing in Fountain Hills. A well-planned and organized facility with a variety of programs and services would enhance the quality of life for all of our residents. From the time I was in grade school, my father encouraged me and set a tremendous example of volunteer service to those less fortunate, our church, and our community. He encouraged us to give of"ourselves"and make a difference. I believe my education, business background, volunteer clubs/projects, and interests would bring a well-rounded individual to the Community Center Commission. I have been a resident of Fountain Hills since 1989 and love our community. The people I have met and worked with make it all the easier to continue volunteering in this community. The basic objective will be to maximize the Center's usefulness to our community while being fiscally responsible. Many achievable goals can be set and accomplished with an outstanding manager who has competent people he/she can turn to for information, suggestions, and solutions. I would like to be one of those people. Also please state what your goals and objectives in serving on the Commission would be. Attach additional sheet,if necessary. I chose Fountain Hills as my home because of its views of and access to the Sonoran Desert and McDowell Mountains and also because of the town's unique character. My two-fold concerns for the town are the preservation of our natural features and the development of our downtown into an attractive and economically successful entity. We must develop a viable tax base by attracting more tourists. We have two good hotels/inns and will be adding two more. These, along with our golf courses and nearby attractions, could be enhanced by a community center that features quality events. I'm willing to serve on the Community Center Advisory Commission to help assure its best possible development in order to serve our citizens and town organizations and also to serve the town's economic needs. Goals and Objectives: • Identify issues and set goals • Collect and analyze data including but not limited to information about comparable successful community centers • Share information with and invite input from our citizens and town organizations • Help formulate policies and procedures and set fees • Report progress and conclusions to the Town Council for their decisions. Thank you for considering my application, Myrna Smith L 15514 Bumblebee Lane V Fountain Hills, AZ 85268 December 8,2000 Community Center Commission Selection Committee c/o Paul Nordin, Town Manager Town of Fountain Hills,AZ Dear Mr. Nordin: Enclosed please find my application for the Community Center Commission along with my resume, which includes additional information about my background and experience. Also please state what your goals and objectives in serving on the Commission would be. Attach additional sheet,If necessary. My interest in serving on the community center advisory commission stems from the fact that my professional experience would prove invaluable on such a commission. Although my current job responsibilities relate to the theatrical portion of the convention and theatrical facilities branch of the City of Phoenix, I have been involved with the Civic Plaza facility as a whole, starting in 1980. I understand the operation and management issues facing such a facility and feel that my background and experience can assist in this developmental phase of the community center operation. My contributions at this point can help assure that the community center will operate effectively and efficiently once the center is completed. I have attached my resume which highlights my broad range of experience in this field. When I look at the duties of the commission, I note that one is assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and appropriate rental agreements. For the City of Phoenix, I have prepared operations manuals, safety manuals, procedures manuals, etc. for the theatre division as well as (1111w the branch as a whole. In my role as technical director, I have extensive experience with rental agreements and contracts and the requirements contained therein. I also have a great deal of experience in capital planning for large facilities and the understanding of long term planning as well as day to day operations. I have been a Fountain Hills resident since 1976 and have a commitment to the community and its facilities. In fact, I was a"technical advisor"on the committee when the performing arts center was still part of the plan. My Fountain Hills volunteer involvements include the school district facilities advisory committee, various school bond campaigns, and conducting ADA and Hazardous Materials inspections and Hazcom training for the school district. My goals are as follows: • work to develop appropriate policies, procedures, and organizational structure for community center • work to develop strategic plan for community center • set up appropriate structures and means for community input and communication • development of marketing and promotion plan balancing community needs and commercial revenue • providing appropriate information and recommendations to town council, with supporting materials(note that I am familiar with the process and have prepared requests for council action as (Ilmov part of my job responsibilities. I believe that being involved is how to show one CARES about their community. Being informed and becoming part of the town' s decision-making process regarding the community center makes we feel as if I CAN make a difference in our town and environment . I also feel that residents should take an active interest in their town through serving on committees , policy boards , etc. I am disdainful of people who complain to their neighbors over the "back fence" about local issues , but never attend a town meeting or vote in local elections . My goals and objectives for serving on the Commission are as follows : 41by 1 . By offering my time and organizational abilities , I can make a difference in the community. 2. By being aware and involved in community issues , I will be able to "get the word out" in Eagle Mountain (where I live) and with the residents of F.H. ( I have the kind of face that welcomes friends and even strangers to talk to me while waiting in line at the grocery store, post office, etc) . 3. By being involved in the Community Center and its inception, I will be proud to say "I was a part of that. " Community unity comes with caring about "local issues" and planning for the benefit of future Fountain Hills residents .
