AGENDA ITEM#1: CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
A public meeting of the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission was convened and called to order
by Chair Bill Myers at 5:29 p.m., Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall,
located at 16705 East Avenue of the Fountains, Fountain Hills, Arizona.
AGENDA ITEM#2: ROLL CALL
Present at roll call were Chair Bill Myers, Vice-Chair Bill Craig, Commissioners Tom Barberic, Gerard
Bisceglia, and Klaus Schadle. Absent at roll call were Commissioners Steve Fleming and Elena Tone.
Staff members present were Director Mark Mayer and Executive Assistant Nancy Walter.
AGENDA ITEM#3: CALL TO THE PUBLIC8
No one from the public was present.
AGENDA ITEM #4: CONSIDERATION OF APPROVING THE JUNE 25, 2013 MEETING
MINUTES
Commissioner Schadle made a motion to accept the minutes of the June 25, 2013 meeting, Commissioner
Barberic seconded and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
AGENDA ITEM#5: DISCUSSION OF A YOUTH COMMISSIONER POSITION
The Commissioners discussed the possibility of adding a Youth Commissioner. Suggestions were made that
the Youth Commissioner could be one of the seven voting Commissioners or just an observer without a vote.
The Council would have to change the by-laws to add a Youth Commissioner.
Suggestions were also made, to instead, get High School students involved to work on trails and learn about
the Preserve,possibly for their Community Service requirements for graduation.
The Commissioners will contact Tom Brennan, FH High School Principal, for suggestions as to how to get
the students involved.
AGENDA ITEM#6: DISCUSSION OF THE CONCEPT OF A MASTER PLAN FOR TRAILS
Roy Kinsey, former Chair of the MMPC, created a Master Plan for the Preserve; this includes a map of all
planned trails. There have been some changes to the trails and, at some point, the Master Plan will have to be
revised and approved by Council.
An overall transportation plan for the Town will include the number of hiking,biking, and walking miles.
AGENDA ITEM#7: UPDATE FROM THE PRESERVE ACCESS WORKGROUP
The workgroup is still researching different access points to the Preserve. The Town and MCO are still in
cpreliminary talks regarding the possible amendment to the Adero Canyon plat.

AGENDA ITEM#9: UPDATE FROM THE MCDOWELL MOUNTAIN MONTH WORKGROUP
The McDowell Mountain Month Expo at Fountain Park is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, starting
at 9:00 a.m.
Groups and organizations that have committed to participate include:
• The River of Time Museum
• McDowell Mountain Park Rangers
• Wild at Heart
The Commissioners will also contact Liberty Wildlife, MCSO, AZ Game & Fish Department, Tucson
Wildlife Museum, and Scott Hamilton, Scottsdale's Senior Trail Planner.
There will be a sign-up sheet for hikes at the Commission's booth at the Fountain Festival of Arts and
Crafts the weekend prior to the Expo.
AGENDA ITEM#10: CONSIDERATION OF ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Bisceglia made a motion to adjourn at 6:03 p.m., Commissioner Barberic seconded and the
motion passed by unanimous vote.
