AGENDA ITEM#1: CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
A public meeting of the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission was convened and called to order
by Chair Bill Myers at 5:32 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall,
located at 16705 East Avenue of the Fountains, Fountain Hills, Arizona.
AGENDA ITEM#2: ROLL CALL
Present at roll call were Chair Bill Myers, Vice-Chair Bill Craig, Commissioners Gerard Bisceglia, Klaus
Schadle, and Elena Torre. Absent at roll call were Commissioners Tom Barberic and Steve Fleming. Staff
members present were Town Manager Ken Buchanan, Director Mark Mayer, and Executive Assistant Nancy
Walter.
AGENDA ITEM#3: CALL TO THE PUBLIC
No one from the public was present.
AGENDA ITEM #4: CONSIDERATION OF APPROVING THE AUGUST 27, 2013 MEETING
MINUTES
Commissioner Bisceglia made a motion to accept the minutes of the August 27, 2013 meeting, Commissioner
Schadle seconded and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
AGENDA ITEM #5: DISCUSSION OF GETTING FH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INVOLVED
WITH THE PRESERVE
Chair Myers distributed and discussed the attached memo.
The objective is to get more young people involved and interested in the Fountain Hills Preserve.
Mayor Kavanagh arrived at 5:42 p.m.
For suggestions as to how to get the students involved:
• Commissioner Bisceglia will contact Tom Lawrence, Superintendent of Fountain Hills Unified
School District
• Vice-Chair Craig will contact Tom Brennan, FH High School Principal and McDowell Mountain
Regional Park Ranger Amy Burnett
• Chair Myers and Commissioner Fleming will contact staff with the Scottsdale and Phoenix Preserves
• Commissioner Torre will contact the Junior Kiwanis and the Mayor's Youth Council
AGENDA ITEM#6: DISCUSSION OF THE MASTER PLAN FOR THE PRESERVE
Director Mayer distributed the attached map. There have been some changes to the trails and, at some point,
1"" the Master Plan will have to be revised and approved by Council.

AGENDA ITEM#7: UPDATE FROM THE PRESERVE ACCESS WORKGROUP
Scottsdale has the paperwork in place to acquire the State Trust Land where the FH/Scottsdale trail
connection would be. The bidding on this land would take place in November 2013.
AGENDA ITEM #8: UPDATE FROM THE PRESERVE MARKETING WORKGROUP /
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Chair Myers and Vice-Chair Craig will present the Preserve PowerPoint to the Four Peaks Rotary on
Thursday, September 26.
The Workgroup will also contact the Senior Services' Men's Discussion Group to inquire if they could
present the Preserve PowerPoint to them.
AGENDA ITEM#9: UPDATE FROM THE MCDOWELL MOUNTAIN MONTH WORKGROUP
MCSO has also confirmed that they will participate in the Expo on November 16.
The Mayor will lead a hike if her schedule allows.
The Mayor will proclaim November"McDowell Mountain Month" at the November 7th Council meeting.
AGENDA ITEM #10: CONSIDERATION OF ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Torre made a motion to adjourn at 6:03 p.m., Commissioner Schadle seconded and the
motion passed by unanimous vote.
