AGENDA ITEM#1: CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
A public meeting of the McDowell Mountain Preservation Commission was convened and called to order
by Chair Bill Myers at 5:31 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall,
located at 16705 East Avenue of the Fountains, Fountain Hills, Arizona.
AGENDA ITEM#2: ROLL CALL
Present at roll call were Chair Bill Myers, Vice-Chair Bill Craig, Commissioners Gerard Bisceglia, Steve
Fleming, and Klaus Schadle. Absent at roll call were Commissioners Tom Barberic and Elena Torre. Staff
members present were Town Manager Ken Buchanan, Supervisor of Recreation Bryan Hughes, and
Executive Assistant Nancy Walter.
AGENDA ITEM#3: CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Mr. Scott Theuer addressed the Commission with concerns about gunshots he heard in McDowell Mountain
Park ,what rules could be enforced, and by whom. He also said that there is fencing that is pulled down at the
Thompson Peak Road gate. Mr. Theuer was given McDowell Mountain Park contact information after the
meeting.
AGENDA ITEM #4: CONSIDERATION OF APPROVING THE SEPTEMBER 24, 2013 MEETING
MINUTES
Commissioner Bisceglia made a motion to accept the minutes of the September 24, 2013 meeting,
Commissioner Fleming seconded and the motion passed by unanimous vote.
AGENDA ITEM #5: DISCUSSION GETTING YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED WITH THE
PRESERVE
• If a hiking club was formed, FH High School Principal Tom Brennan told Vice-Chair Craig he
would contact teachers to see if they were interested in sponsoring the club. He also would make
announcements to the students to participate in the Preserve maintenance/trail building as part of
their graduation service requirements.
• Ranger Amy directed Vice-Chair Craig to the Game & Fish Department's website. The website
has a number of programs with availability of getting tools and wildlife identifications boxes to
present to High School Youth.
• Phoenix Parks & Recreation has been contacted and we are waiting for their response regarding a
Youth Commissioner.
• Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Don Doty had positive comments about having a Youth
Commissioner as part of the Commission.
• Scottsdale staff is not aware of any young people on any of their Commissions.

AGENDA ITEM#6: UPDATE FROM THE PRESERVE ACCESS WORKGROUP
The Workgroup continues to look at alternate access points.
Rand Hubbell, McDowell Mountain Park Supervisor, told the Commissioners that there was a fire ring and *.ii)
trash at Landing Zone 5. Vice-Chair Craig will take pictures and clean up the area.
AGENDA ITEM #7: UPDATE FROM THE PRESERVE MARKETING WORKGROUP /
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Chair Myers and Vice-Chair Craig presented the Preserve PowerPoint to the Four Peaks Rotary on
Thursday, September 26 and received positive feedback. Commissioner Bisceglia also attended. There was
an article and picture in the TIMES regarding the presentation.
The Commission will present the PowerPoint to the Men's Discussion Group in December.
AGENDA ITEM#8: UPDATE FROM THE MCDOWELL MOUNTAIN MONTH WORKGROUP
Everything is set for the November 16th event from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Commissioner Fleming
will make an informational flier for the event to distribute at the Festival of Arts & Crafts, November 8th,
9th, and 10th. There will also be a sign-up sheet for hikes at the Commission's booth at the Fountain
Festival of Arts and Crafts.
AGENDA ITEM#9: CONSIDERATION OF ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Schadle made a motion to adjourn at 5:55 p.m., Vice-Chair Craig seconded and the motion
passed by unanimous vote.
