A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
FOUNTAIN HILLS, ARIZONA, ESTABLISHING ENVIRONMENTAL
POLICIES FOR THE TOWN TO PROTECT AND IMPROVE THE HEALTH
AND SAFETY OF THE COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, the Town of Fountain Hills (the "Town ") Strategic Plan directs the Mayor
and Town Council (the "Town Council ") to enhance stewardship of the natural environment and,
furthermore to create a responsible environmental policy for the community; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council is aware of the importance of the natural environment,
its impacts on the health and safety of its residents and the interrelationships that exist with the
surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, the Town endeavors to reduce its impacts on the environment and reduce
pollution wherever possible and the Town recognizes that environmental stewardship is a
partnership with its residents, businesses and surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, the Town is committed to taking actions to (i) conserve natural resources,
increase its use of environmentally sustainable products, materials and services, including
renewable resources, (ii) minimize pollution and waste through reduction, reuse and recycling
and (iii) encourage its citizens and businesses to actively engage in resource conservation and
recycling.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
THE TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS as follows:
SECTION 1. That the Town Council hereby adopts the following environmental
guidelines as guidance for future development of detailed environmental policies:
a. The Town will pursue improved communication and collaboration with its
Federal, State and local partners on environmental concerns and legislation.
b. The Town will promote environmental stewardship in the Town and embrace
environmental initiatives in partnership with surrounding communities.
C. The Town will endeavor to design, construct and maintain its buildings,
infrastructure and grounds in a manner that is both environmentally sustainable and that protects
public health and safety.
d. The Town will advance understanding of the environment through its public
information office, education programs and partnerships with the media and environmental
agencies.
e. The Town will make environmental costs, risks and impacts an integral part of its
planning and decision making processes.

f. The Town will implement and maintain a process /system to evaluate
environmental initiatives that seeks input from Town staff, the business community, citizens and
community services providers.
g. The Town will seek to provide inducements to encourage citizens and businesses
to participate in the Town's program to conserve resources and reduce waste.
SECTION 2. That the Mayor, the Town Manager, the Town Clerk and the Town
Attorney are hereby authorized and directed to take all steps and to execute all documents
necessary to carry out the purpose and intent of this Resolution.

May 15, 2008.
