RESOLUTION NO.1996-60
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF
FOUNTAIN HILLS,ARIZONA URGING THE COUNTY OF MARICOPA NOT
TO DIVEST,TRADE OR SELL LAND FROM THE MCDOWELL MOUNTAIN
REGIONAL PARK AND TO URGE AMENDMENT OF THE COUNTY'S PARK
LAND ACQUISITION AND DISPOSAL POLICY
WHEREAS,TheMcDowellMountain Regional Park,ownedbytheCountyofMaricopaand
adjoining theTownofFountainhillstothenorth,representsaninvaluablepreservationofopenspace,
SonoranDesertplantandwildlifecommunitiesandparkusesofimmenseimportancetothepeopleofthis
community aswellasthe County;and
WHEREAS,ArecentproposaltodivestlandsfromtheMcDowellMountainRegionalParkfor
private residential development posed a serious danger tothe integrity and values of thePark;and
WHEREAS,Preservation of McDowell Parklandsisinthebestinterest of thepeopleofFountain
Hills;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED bythe Mayor and Common Council of Fountain Hills,
Arizona that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and County Parks and Recreation Commission are
urgedto oppose any exchange,saleor disposal of landfrom McDowellMountain Regional Park.
Thatthe Maricopa County Board of Supervisors isurgedto amend itsexistingParkLand
Acquisition &Disposal Policy by adding a provision thatinno event shallanyreal property
withinthe County's parksbesold,tradedor otherwise alienated,redesignated ordeleted
fromthe County Park System except after public hearing and approval of thevotersof
Maricopa County.
PASSED this15thday of August,1996bythe Mayor and Council of the Town of Fountain Hills,
Arizona.
