RESOLUTION 2002-36
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS,ARIZONA,DIRECTING CENSURE TO
MAYOR JON BEYDLER FOR CONDUCT UNBECOMING THE OFFICE
OF MAYOR AND DISRESPECTFUL TO THE CITIZENS OF THE TOWN
OF FOUNTAIN HILLS.
WHEREAS,Sincetheeventsof September 11,2001thiscountryandtheTownof
Fountain Hillshas attempted tobringallpeoplestogetherinaspiritof harmony,loveandtrustto
assistoneanotherinthegrievingprocesscausedbythehorribleevents;and,
WHEREAS,theMayorandCounciloftheTownof Fountain Hillshavevotedand
authorized the expenditure of funds for actions,activities and expenditures to commemorate and
respectfully honor the memory of those who gave their lives on September 11,2001;and,
WHEREAS,theMayorandCounciloftheTownofFountainHillsauthorizeda
commemorativeservicetobeheldon September 11,2002onthefirstanniversaryofthetragic
eventand extended an invitation tothe Honorable Joseph Arpaio,Sheriff of Maricopa Countyto
be the principal speaker at said event because of the Sheriff's position as a popular and elected
lawenforcementofficialinMaricopaCountyandaresidentoftheTownofFountainHills;and,
WHEREAS,the actions ofMayorJonBeydler without eitherthecommentorconsentof
the entire Town Council politicized and brought disrespect tothe Office ofthe Maricopa County
Sheriff andto Sheriff Arpaio and disregard and distain tothe citizens ofthe Town of Fountain
Hills by causing the Town tobe subject to adverse publicity and private ridicule;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY TFIE MAYOR AND COMMON
COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF FOUNTAIN FULLS,ARIZONA,AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.That Mayor Jon Beydler beand hereby is censured bythe Council of the Townof
Fountain Hills
Section 2.ThattheCouncilrespectfullyrequeststhattheMayorrefrain from unilateral
exercises of personal vendettas between himself and Sheriff Arpaio when such
actions cananddo cause the remainder of the Town to become subject scorn and
ridicule.
Section3.ThattheTownCouncilextendsto Sheriff Arpaioitsapologiesfortheeventsthat
caused the Sheriff tonotbeabletobethefeatured speaker atthe September 11,
2002 commemorative ceremonies.
PASSED AND ADOPTED bytheMayorandCommonCounciloftheTownof
Fountain Hills,Arizona this 19th day of September,2002.
