HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007.0919.TCOM.Minutes TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS MINUTES OF THE JOINT MEETING OF THE TOWN COUNCIL AND THE FOUNTAIN HILLS UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT SEPTEMBER 19, 2007 Agenda Item 1: School Superintendent Bill Myhr welcomed the assembled group. Present for the Fountain Hills Unified School District (FHUSD): Helen Howard, Board President; Dana Saar, Board Vice President; Melanie Anderelli, Pat Green, and C.T. Wright, Board Members; Bill Myhr, Superintendent; Tim Leedy, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Support Services; and Tom Lawrence, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Present for the Town of Fountain Hills (Town): Wally Nichols, Mayor; Mike Archambault, Ginny Dickey, Ed Kehe, Henry Leger, and Jay Schlum, Councilmembers; Tim Pickering, Town Manager; Kate Zanon, Assistant to the Town Manager; Andrew McGuire, Town Attorney; Katie Decker, Public Information Officer; Tom Ward, Director of Public Works; Richard Turner, Director of Planning and Zoning; Mark Mayer, Director of Parks and Recreation; Julie Ghetti, Director of Finance; Richard Schultz, Strategic Planning Advisory Commission; and Shaunna Williams,Executive Assistant to the Town Manager,Mayor&Council. Agenda Item 2: Members of the group introduced themselves. Agenda Item 3: A buffet breakfast was served. Agenda Item 4: Tim Leedy gave an overview of special bond and capital outlay budget override election to be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. Agenda Item 5: Mark Mayer presented an update on the joint park project. Public meetings are being held to address citizen concerns. Changes and modifications to plans are being made to mitigate concerns. Master planning is targeted for completion during this fiscal year. Agenda Item 6: Kate Zanon reviewed the Town's water saving efforts, which have included Council adoption of a low-water landscaping ordinance for commercial and new residential construction, joining a regional consortium called "Water—Use it Wisely" in order to raise awareness, application for grant monies to construct demonstration gardens, and Council consideration of a resolution on a water saving program called, "Rinse Smart." She stated that community buy-in has been excellent. Agenda Item 7: Tim Pickering provided an update on the Town's long-term revenue solutions project. A municipal financial consultant has completed a study that will be presented to the Town Council on September 20, 2007. Community forums will be held to discuss possible solutions and a citizen survey will be conducted, with Council consideration of proposed solution(s) at the end of December. Agenda Item 8: Richard Schultz discussed the Strategic Plan initiative to support lifelong learning and suggested that the Town and FHUSD partner and share resources in order to achieve that goal. He requested that suggestions/feedback from FHUSC be emailed to him. Agenda Item 9: Richard Turner stated that a committee has been formed to create a Town Environmental Policy consisting of Town staff, members of Council, and a representative from FHUSD. The committee has established that many things are already being done and will focus on things that will have the most impact. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mayor Nichols urged representatives from FHUSD to attend Constitution Commemoration Day in Scottsdale next year in order to support Youths who win awards at that program.
