HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008.0201.TCSM.Minutes Low TOWN OF FOUNTAIN HILLS DRAFT MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING COUNCIL GOAL SETTING RETREAT February 1,2008 On February 1, 2008, the Town of Fountain Hills Town Council and Interim Town Manager met as part of an annual planning process to consider goals and objectives for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. The meeting took place at the Radisson Fort McDowell located at 10438 North Fort McDowell Road, Fort McDowell, Arizona, beginning at 7:30 AM. The retreat was posted as a public meeting, although no decisions were made and no formal votes were taken. Retreat participants included Vice-Mayor Ginny Dickey, Council Member Ed Kehe, Council Member Keith McMahan, Council Member Mike Archambault, Council Member Henry Leger, Council Member Jay Schlum, and Interim Town Manager Kate Zanon. Mayor Wally Nichols was absent due to a medical condition. Several Senior Staff members were present as observers, as were five candidates for Town Council, two members of the public and one representative of the press. Council Members, the Interim Town Manager and the facilitator participated in the discussions; senior staff members and other knowledgeable attendees responded to questions. The retreat was facilitated by Phillip Blackerby of Blackerby Associates. During the retreat the Town's Mission Statement and Strategic Plan 2006-2010 were reviewed. Interim Town Manager Kate Zanon provided status updates on 2nd Quarter Progress on Council Goals for FY 2007-08, current projects for FY 2007-08, and goals that could continue to FY 2008-09. Finance Director Julie Ghetti provided status updates on finances for FY 2007-08 year-to-date and the financial forecast for FY 2008-09. The Council discussed eight goals that the Town Council would like to achieve during the 2008- 2009 budget year and also discussed strategic objectives for each goal. Goals discussed included relationships with the business community; continued work on finances; Ellman development agreement (former State Trust Land); strengthening small town identity by working with community partners and neighbors; continuing dialogue with schools; environmental policy implementation; evaluating the pavement improvement management plan; and improving communications with stakeholders. On February 29, 2008,the Town senior staff is scheduled to meet to further develop the strategic objectives that will support of the Town Council's draft goals. A comprehensive report will then be prepared by the retreat facilitator and the goals and objectives will be presented to the Council at a regular meeting for formal adoption.
