HomeMy WebLinkAboutCoast Guard Day Proclamation 2021Town of Fountain Hills Proclamation 2315t Birthday of the United States Coast Guard WHEREAS, on August 4, 1790, the newly -formed United States Congress created what would become the Revenue Cutter Service to enforce federal tariff and trade laws and prevent smuggling; and WHEREAS, in 1915, the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the United States Life -Saving Service thus forming the modern U.S. Coast Guard dedicated to the safety of life at sea and enforcing the nation's maritime laws; and WHEREAS, in 2003, The President of the United States signed into law the Homeland Security Act of 2002, which created the Department of Homeland Security and transferred the U.S. Coast to the new Department; and WHEREAS, the current Coast Guard mission is to protect the public, the environment and U.S. economic interests in the nation's waterways, along the coast, on international waters, or in any maritime region as required to support national security; and WHEREAS, the Coast Guard's service and strength are defined by its Core Values of Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty; and WHEREAS, the Coast Guard motto is Semper Paratus — Always Ready; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, part of "Team Coast Guard" is actively patrolling Arizona waterways in the interest of recreational boating safety; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ginny Dickey, Mayor of the Town of Fountain Hills, Arizona, do hereby proclaim August 4, 2021, the 231st birthday of the United States Coast Guard, as COAST GUARD DAY in the Town of Fountain Hills and I call the observance to the attention of all our citizens.
